Here are answers to questions we’re frequently asked about RumiCar.
What is RumiCar?
RumiCar is a platform to learn, develop, and share autonomous driving algorithms using low-cost mini RC cars and distance sensors. It is a grassroots project run by volunteers.
Do I need programming experience to participate?
No experience is required. We provide sample programs and a simulator so you can learn the basics from scratch.
Can I participate without owning a physical car?
Yes. The RumiCar Simulator runs in your browser, so you can start developing and testing autonomous driving algorithms without buying a physical car.
Is there a cost to participate?
Using the simulator is free. For events involving the physical cars, please check the Event Participation List page for details on each event.
What kinds of events are held?
We hold driving meetups and programming workshops. Upcoming events are announced on connpass (rumicar.connpass.com).
Where can I find the code you’re developing?
We publish the core platform, simulator, and microcontroller libraries on GitHub (RumiCar-group). Anyone can view and use them.

I heard RumiCar can be controlled with hand gestures?
Our Hand Signs feature analyzes hand movements from a camera feed to control RumiCar.
